Where To Bet PGA Head To Head Matchups

Graeme

Golf tournaments are absolutely crazy. 150 golfers fighting to make the cut, all of them are the very best in the world and fighting for position. I know that someone has to win these things, but it is really crazy to think that we are able to pick winners on these tournaments. There are just so many golfers! You just never know when someone is going to come out of nowhere and have the tournament of their life.

One thing I like to do to mix up my golf betting is to do PGA matchups. These are bets between two golfers where you just bet one against the other. It’s not about who wins the tournament or who finishes in the top five, but who has the better match between these two specific golfers. It can be a lot of fun to bet when there is a high profile pairing or you simply just want to keep your tabs on two golfers all day.

PGA matchups are a great bet to have in your tool bag and this article will share a bit more about that. I’ll let you know where to bet them and how I go about betting on them.

Where To Bet PGA Matchups:

America: BetOnline is a great site for betting on golf and they have you covered if you are looking into PGA Matchups, offering odds for each round.

Everywhere Else: PGA Matchups are just one of the many golf options available at Bet365 Sportsbook.

What are PGA Matchups?

A PGA Matchup is a bet between two golfers of which one will do better.

There are two main factors for betting on matchups with two different options.

Spread: When you bet the spread, you are either taking strokes or laying strokes. It is similar to a point spread in football or basketball. For a single round, the spread is usually plus or minus 0.5 strokes. This is mostly designed to avoid ties so there is always a winner and a loser.

Moneyline: This is just a straight up bet between two golfers. No added strokes or anything like that, just a bet on who will have the better day. Not all golfers are created equal though so the moneyline will differentiate between the favorite and the underdog.

For example, let’s take a look up at two golfers who were matched up in the Masters.

Bryson DeChambeau -200
Matt Jones +165

DeChambeau has had a lot more success in his PGA career so he is a big favorite here at -200. That means a $100 bet would only pay out at $50, or a $200 bet would pay out at $100.

Jones is the underdog so if he has a bigger day, a $100 bet would pay out at $165.

What is the greatest duel in PGA history?

There have been some really great duels in PGA history, but a classic match-up for the 1960s is what many will point to.

Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus are two names that are synonymous with golf and they went at it in Jack’s rookie year at the 1962 U.S. Open. Palmer was the favorite heading in, but he had a feeling about Jack and told the press “Everybody says I’m the favorite, but you’d better watch the fat boy.”

The two ended up going back and forth with Nicklaus making a comeback from five strokes down with 11 holes to play. Palmer had a chance to win it on 18, but missed a 20-foot putt. That ended up sending them to a playoff where Nicklaus took a 4-shot lead and ultimately won the match.

How to Bet PGA Matchups:

BetOnline: On the left hand side of the page, click “Golf” and it will display some more options. Find the event’s page and the match-up odds will be displayed here. You can also click the event page where it denotes the round.

Bet365 Sportsbook: Click “Golf” on the side of the page to display all the golf odds. From there, look for “18 Hole Match-Ups”. Click that to find what you are looking for.

PGA Matchups Betting Strategy:

Have you ever heard of the final day collapse? It feels like it happens in every golf tournament I watch, especially on the days when I have a bet on the leader! One way to use this to your advantage is to simply bet against the leader after three runs on his fourth round. Holding a lead in a golf tournament is really hard and finishing strong is not easy. You will not always win, but that’s a fun bet – especially when you want someone else to win.
