In any game of League of Legends, it’s the Barons that can really make or break those all important final results. Found in the jungles, they’ll appear after a set time as a neutral enemy for either team to take down, which in turn provides them with the legendary ‘Hand of Baron’ buff. Here we’ll look at what this all means in a game of LoL, and also what it means when it comes to betting on how many Barons will be slain each map.

When it comes to Baron Nashor, as he’s officially known in full, it’s useful to understand the basics of what his importance is in any given League game. Situated in the main map of Summoner’s Rift, he can be an integral part of pushing through to destroying the enemy’s Nexus and winning the game. Appearing after a set amount of time into each match, he offers a power when killed, which grants the team with bonuses. This then means that there’s a rush between the teams to take him down, gaining the powers before the opposition.

When it comes to placing prop bets on this then, where do you start, and what should you look for when putting down money? Never fear, as we’ll cover it all, from the basics of the Baron himself, to what strategies you should use when betting.

What is LoL Map Barons?

As opposed to many of the larger bets, placing a wager on the Barons in any given game of LoL is a smaller prop that can potentially turn a tidy profit. The Baron itself will spawn twenty minutes into the match, and then respawn seven minutes between each time he’s killed in-game. It’s a neutral buff that’s open for everyone to collect, regardless of which team they’re fighting for, making it a race to get there first.

With the ‘Jungler’ champion being the player that covers the jungle space between lanes, it’s typically up to them to alert their team-mates when the Baron spawns in the set location. Here’s a basic look at how the Baron himself fights, along with his attacks, powers, and specials used in-game:

  • Attacks: attacking whichever unit is closest, the Baron will either launch a ranged attack, or a physical melee depending on distance, including launching spikes on those behind him.
  • Actives: following every sixth attack by the Baron, he will then deploy a random special, which consists of acid shot, acid pool, rear attack spikes, and tentacle knock-up.
  • Passives: all traps are cast aside by the Baron, along with wards and numerous buffs, and he takes 50% less damage from the last player attacked, so it’s better to attack as a team.

Upon being killed he will grant the ‘Hand of Baron’ buff to all players on the killing team, which lasts for a total of three minutes, as it drastically increases everyone’s attack power. From the minions to the players themselves, it’s an essential match maker that’s only granted to champions who are alive in-game, but what does this mean when it comes to betting?

How exactly does the Baron props themselves work?:

When it comes to betting on the Baron and how they’ll be used in any given game, you’ll largely be focusing on prop bets. You can either bet on which team will kill the Baron first, or how many Barons will be killed over the course of a map, or match. This can be either a set number, or you can use an over/under to determine where the total kill count will lie. As one of the larger props, it works well against a lot of the main League bets, complimenting them effectively.

What are the signs I should look for when it comes to these props?:

The Jungler is often the key player here, as they’re the one that’s going to cover the Baron’s lair in the jungle, bringing in everyone else when he appears. It makes sense then, that you’ll want to find a Jungler who’s effective and quick to respond, especially in regards to the Baron. Regularly checking the line-up is important, making sure who is playing what position and when, and keeping yourself updated at all times. Older games will give you a clearer idea of this too, watching how the jungles are covered, and what everyone’s response times are.

How to Bet LoL Map Barons:

Bovada:

From the main page you’ll find ‘Sports’ in the navigation bar at the top of the main page, followed by ‘Esports’ down below in the next. Using the ‘All Esports’ roll-down menu, you then want to find ‘League of Legends’ from the list, along with the event you want. It will then have the number of bets available beside each match, with ‘+ bets’, and you want one with a high amount, as you can find ‘Team to Kill First Baron’ under ‘Other Props’ down below when available.

Bet365 Sportsbook:

Down the left-hand side you’ll find the ‘Esports’ option, which will take you through to all the eSports themselves. Rolling down the middle of the page then are all the different events, with ‘LOL’ matches near the top, along with the various sections underneath. Opening these up, you can find ‘Map – Dragons’ located beneath ‘Lines’ and maps, which will take you through to the bets you want.

LoL Map Barons Betting Strategy:

As mentioned earlier, the success of any team here mostly comes down the Jungler, and how they effectively cover all the jungle regions. Looking at who gains momentum as the game picks up is probably your best course of action here, as the Baron comes into effect later on. Watch older games and see the various different styles of play, such as who’s more reserved and bides their time, and who’s more aggressive from the outset.

It’s also a question of placing this bet effectively alongside many of the larger bets, which it’s perfect for given that it’s one of the better served props out there. Spreading your money between the over/under can also help, allowing you to even out the odds, making for a more productive and potentially profitable set of wagers.
