Where To Bet NHL 1st Periods

Graeme

I love hockey, but sometimes a guy just has to go to bed. The games are always on late and a lot of times I simply can’t stay up to watch them, especially those west coast games. However, I still want to bet on some hockey and also watch that bet play out. So, what do I do? I bet NHL 1st Periods.

NHL 1st Period betting is a lot of fun because it’s just for that first twenty minutes. I use it to bet and then get to bed early, but anyone can bet on it. It can be a good market as there are certain teams and players that simply play better or worse in the first period as opposed to the other periods.

This article is going to get more into the NHL 1st Period betting including how to bet it and the best place online to bet it.

Where To Bet NHL 1st Periods:

America: One of the top sportsbooks for Americans is Bovada and they have some excellent NHL betting options, including NHL 1st Periods.

Canada: Every Canadian bettor I know loves Sports Interaction and they are a great place to bet on NHL 1st periods.

Everywhere Else: Bet365 Sportsbook is a website with betting odds on NHL games and they have a great selection of props and period bets as well.

What is NHL 1st Periods betting?

Betting on an NHL 1st Period is just like betting on an NHL game. The difference is that it is for the 1st period and 1st period only. Just like those bets, there are three main markets that you can bet on.

Moneyline: This is a straight up bet on who will win the period. If there is one team favored for the full game, they will also be favored in this period. This bet can end in a push if the period ends tied.

Spread: This will be a bet where one team is favored by -0.5 goals and the other team will “get” 0.5 goals. The favorite will be the only laying the goals. They would then need to have at least a 1-0 lead after the first period to win that bet. A tie or lead would be a win for the team that is +0.5.

Total: A total is typically set at 1.5 goals and you can bet over or under on that. If there are two or more goals scored in the period, over wins. If there is one goal or less scored, under wins.

Common NHL 1st Periods Questions:

What was the highest scoring 1st period in NHL history?

The record for highest scoring 1st Period in NHL history was set way back on March 8th, 1922 when the Montreal Canadiens scored eight goals against the Toronto St. Patricks. Billy Boucher, Odie Cleghorn, and Sprague Cleghorn each had two goals in the period with additional goals added by Louis Berlinquette and Billy Coutu. An interesting fact about this game is that the Canadiens did not score again and barely hung over for the 8-7 win.

Eight goals has been scored in a single period nine times, but this is the only time that came in the first period. However, those eight goals is not the record for most goals in a single period. That record belongs to the Buffalo Sabres who scored nine goals in 1981.

How to Bet NHL 1st Periods:

Bovada: Head to the hockey section by clicking “Hockey” on the top menu of the website. This will display all of the days games. There is a dropdown menu up top that should say “Game Lines”, select that and pick “Period Lines” to see the period lines for the upcoming games.

Sports Interaction: Find “Hockey” on the left hand menu of the website and click NHL. The list of the games will be there and you can just click on the game to find the 1st Period betting odds.

Bet365 Sportsbook: Head to the Hockey section of the sportsbook and you will see a list of NHL betting odds. In that list will be “1st period” which will show you all the odds for that day’s games.

NHL 1st Periods Betting Strategy:

Typically the first period is the lowest scoring period in a hockey game so that is definitely something that you want to keep in mind. I wouldn’t just blindly go under across the board on NHL 1st periods, but if it is a good match-up between two strong defensive teams with good goalies than that is definitely a place to strike on the under.
