Score in the First 7 Minutes: This is a simple yes or no bet on if either of the two teams will score in the first seven minutes of the game. A similar bet to this is the “Race to 10 points”.

Team to Score Longest Touchdown: Which of the two teams will score the longest touchdown. This can be a tricky one because you never know when a big run or long pass will break out. A team could win 35-7, but if that single touchdown is the longest of the game, you lose.

Team to Score Longest Field Goal: A bet on which of the two teams will kick the longest field goal. A lot of factors are at play here, but you typically want to go with a team that you know have a player who can kick them.

Total Touchdowns: This is a bet on the amount of total touchdowns scored in the game. Not the final score or which team scores what, but simply how many touchdowns in the game combined between the two teams. 14-14 and 28-0 would both count as four total touchdowns.

As of this writing there have been 1,070 unique final scores in NFL history. This is referred to as “Scorigami” and is actually kept track of at this website.

Player Tackles and Assists: This is a combination of the above two bets with a total set on the total amount of tackles and assists a player will manage in a game. It doesn’t matter if they have more tackles or more assists, as long as they go over or under the total amount listed.

Some examples:

Devin Bush – Over 4.5 (-140) / Under 4.5 (+110)
Minkah Fitzpatrick – Over 7.5 (-110) / Under 7.5 (-120)

Different types of players will have different totals.

Player to Record a Defensive Sack: Sacks are rare in the NFL, but their not that rare. Teams rush like never before and there are players on the field who specialize in getting to the quarterback. This one isn’t exactly easy to pick and can pay pretty well, but it’s not the hardest of the bets around.

For example, a sack specialist like TJ Watt would have a line that looked something like this:

TJ Watt to record a sack – YES (-145) / NO (+115)

He is known for his sacking skills so “Yes” is actually a small favorite. For other players who have lower totals, the odds will be better.

Player Defensive Interceptions: This may be the hardest defensive player prop to bet of all as there is no guarantee that an interception will have in a game like there is with a tackle or an assist. You are not only betting on whether or not it will happen, but also who will do it. Based on the likelihood of it happening, the odds on this one are very good if you want to bet over and very poor if you want to bet under.

For example, this is what the Vikings defense might look like on any given Sunday.

Bashaud Breeland – Over 0.5 (+650) / Under 0.5 (-1050)
Patrick Peterson – Over 0.5 (+575) / Under 0.5 (-900)

What is a tackle assist?

If you’re going to bet on a tackle assist, it’s best to know what they are. A tackle assist is awarded when an opposing player is tackled by at least two players. The way that it is awarded is by the statistician in the stadium who makes the determination whether a player deserves a solo tackle or if two players deserve an assist with no solo tackle on the play.

It is rare for more than two players to be credited with an assisted tackle, but not impossible.

Has a coach ever won back-to-back Coach of the Year awards?

There have been three repeat winners for NFL Coach of the Year since the award’s inception in 1957.

The first to do it was Allie Sherman of the New York Giants who won it in 1961 and 1962.

The second to do it was Don Shula, but there is an asterisk attached to this one. He tied for the award with George Allen in 1967, the only time two coaches won the award, before winning it on his own in 1968. What is the record for most passing yards in a single season?

In 1984, Dan Marino threw for 5,084 yards in a single season. It seemed as if that record may stand forever as nobody in the 1980s or 1990s came even close. Drew Brees in 2008 made a run at it in 2008, but fell just 15 yards short.

The way that I approach this is by going in and crossing off about twenty names. I am only looking at the elite of the elite here. There was a season in which Jameis Winston was the top thrower in the league, but if you take that away it is almost always the elite quarterbacks of the league who win this award.

Once I have it down to those ten names, I look at the defenses. Why? Because I need to know who will need to throw. It doesn’t need to be an awful defense, just a middle of the road team. Think pretty much every Drew Brees team or Ben Roethlisberger in 2019. The Steelers defense that year was 16th of 32 in points allowed. That is the sweet spot.

Finally, I’m taking a look at coach. The reason that Drew Brees was able to lead the league in this category so many years is because he had a coach in Sean Payton that was willing to let him throw. Same with Ben Roethlisberger. They have the green light and their coach likes passing. Compare them to a player like Aaron Rodgers, an undoubtedly great quarterback, but his team has a lot more rushing attempts for whatever reason.

Has there ever been an undefeated team in the NFL?

There have been four perfect seasons in the history of the NFL. The 1934 Bears finished 13-0, but lost the NFL Championship game. The 1942 Chicago Bears finished 11-0 and lost the NFL Championship games. The 2007 New England Patriots finished the regular season 16-0, but lost the Super Bowl.
